Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard eyes record 8th leading goal-scorer award in Suncorp Super Netball League

Sunshine Girls’ powerhouse shooter Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard is once again staking her claim to win the Suncorp Super Netball Leading Goal-Scorer Award for a record-extending eighth time.

In a thrilling Round 10 showdown, Fowler-Nembhard was unstoppable, converting 57 goals from 57 attempts to lead former champions West Coast Fever to a hard-fought 69-63 victory on the road against the Melbourne Mavericks — a team featuring another Sunshine Girl, Shimona Jok who converted 34 of her 36 chances.

Despite missing the opening two games of the season, Fowler-Nembhard’s latest scoring outburst lifted her tally to 486 goals, narrowing the gap to just 15 behind season leader Grace Nweke of the NSW Swifts. Nweke recently became the first player this season to surpass the 500-goal milestone, setting a fierce pace in the race for the top scorer crown.

Other notable offensive stars include Shimona Jok, who ranks third in the league with 437 goals, and Romelda Aiken-George, sitting fourth in scoring with 407 goals and second in offensive rebounds with 53.

On the defensive front, Adelaide Thunderbirds’ Latanya Wilson continues to impress as the only player leading two major statistical categories, topping the league with 69 deflections and 28 intercepts. Defender Kadie-Ann Dehaney also shines, ranking fourth with 44 deflections.
