JFJ wants law that applies disciplinary action if security forces fail to wear and activate body-worn cameras
Lobby Group, Jamaicans for Justice is calling on lawmakers to legislate key aspects of the protocols governing body-worn cameras, including mandating the wearing and activation of the devices.
This is amid a surge in fatal shootings by members of the security forces.
According to the Independent Commission of Investigations, 28 people were fatally shot last month, 15 more than the 13 deaths in January last year.
The group’s Executive Director, Mickel Jackson says failure to wear or activate BWCs without reasonable explanation should result in strong disciplinary actions.
She said the measures are not just mere recommendations — they are a necessity for a society that values justice, transparency, and the rule of law.
