JFF suspends Leon Bailey from Reggae Boyz selection
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), as first reported by IRIE FM, has made the decision to temporarily suspend the selection of Leon Bailey to the senior Men’s National Team.
Bailey, after being suspended for the Concacaf Nations League finals for breaking a team curfew, asked for time off from the national squad and as a result is not with the team at the 2024 Copa America in now underway in the United States.
There was further controversy when his name was included in the 26 man Reggae Boyz squad named by head coach Hemir Hallgrimsson for the tournament which got underway on June 20 and is scheduled to run until July 14.
The Federation in a press release said “This decision has been made in light of recent circumstances surrounding his comments and non-participation in the Copa America 2024 team, despite being selected.”
“Consideration was also given to his stated desire to take a break from national duties, and suspending his selection will guard against any further miscommunication.”
The release further went on to state “The JFF values the contributions of all players and respects their individual decisions regarding national team participation.”
The matter has been referred to Mr. David Watt, the newly appointed Chairman of the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee.
