Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Stewart Beckford says complex security systems prevented firefighters from accessing a Kingston premises which was engulfed on Monday.
The fire broke out at a wholesale on Tower Street in Downtown Kingston.
Commissioner Beckford acknowledged the need of merchants and other small business operators to secure their property properly, but lamented that oftentimes, in the event of an emergency, first responders cannot gain access to the affected premises.
Speaking with Irie FM News yesterday, Commissioner Beckford said investigations were underway to determine the cause of the fire at the wholesale.
