JCSA to increase its push for legislators to pass Occupational Safety & Health bill
The Jamaica Civil Service Association will be stepping up its advocacy for the occupational safety and health bill to be passed by the country’s law makers.
The bill has been languishing for years and the Labour ministry had pointed out that its awaiting the final draft from the chief parliamentary counsel.
JCSA President Techa Clarke Griffiths noted that the recent mould issue affecting staff at the Administrator Generals Department, re-ignited concern about the well-being of public sector workers and the environment they work in.
She was giving the country report at the Caribbean Public Services Association annual conference.
The OSH bill is intended to repeal the Factories act which is limited in scope and excludes vital sectors and groups.
The proposed legislation’s introduction is expected to usher in a new paradigm in workplace safety and health across Jamaica.
The bill will also set out and improve standards for safety and security in the workplace.
