The Jamaica Civil Service Association has assured that it continues to lobby for changes to arrangements, especially for remote and flexi work, for public sector workers.

JCSA President Techa Clarke Griffiths noted that the association still has concerns about remote work, to include, payment for utilities and repair of equipment used by staff members, who work from home.

The matter again came to fore earlier this month, when mold issues at the Administrator General’s Department resulted in the workers taking industrial action, citing health risks.

The JCSA was able to have some workers switch to remote and flexi-work, while the mold issue was being remedied.

Mrs. Clarke Griffiths pointed out that, in general, many employers do not want to use the remote/flexi work arrangement.

She said there needs to be some agreement about compensating workers for subsidizing government resources, while doing remote work. 

She pointed out that the 40-hour work week and overtime policy, applies to all workers.
