JCF urges citizens to be on the lookout for fraudulent messages offering cash or other benefits this Christmas season
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) is urging citizens to be on the lookout for fraudulent messages claiming to offer them cash grants or other benefits this Christmas season.
The warning comes amid the circulation of a fraudulent message online that claims to offer a “Christmas cash grant” in the name of Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
The JCF noted that these scams are designed to trick unsuspecting individuals into clicking malicious links and sharing personal or financial information.
It explained that at this time of year, criminals are more active in their attempts to scam and defraud individuals.
The JCF noted that these tactics often involve phishing, smishing (fraudulent text messages), and other forms of cyber attacks.
Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and cautious when interacting with online messages, links, or offers that seem too good to be true.
Persons are reminded to verify links before they click and to avoid clicking on links from unverified sources.
Individuals are further urged not to share sensitive personal or financial details, such as passwords or banking information, with unknown or suspicious sources.
The JCF noted further that official government or corporate initiatives are always communicated through official channels.
Persons who encounter fraudulent messages are urged to report them to the JCF or their service provider immediately.
