A police corporal was gunned down at the intersection of West Avenue and Beechwood Avenue in Kingston last night.

Dead is 47-year-old Corporal Christopher Smith. He was attached to the Kingston Western Police Division.

Reports are that at about 10:54 P.M., Corporal Smith drove his private motorcar to a petrol station in the area to purchase fuel, unknowingly entering an active robbery scene.

While he waited to be served, one of the robbers attacked and shot him several times.

Citizens assisted Corporal Smith to the hospital where he died while being treated.

The Constabulary’s Chaplaincy Services Branch and the Community Safety and Security Branch have been directed to provide support to Corporal Smith’s family and colleagues.
