JCF completes implementation of back end support system for processing and storing footage from body worn cameras
The Constabulary Force has completed the implementation of the back end support system for processing and storing of footage from body worn cameras.
Police Commissioner Dr Kevin Blake gave the update at the recently held Jamaica Chamber of Commerce Breakfast conversation event.
There have been calls from the Independent Commission of Investigations, and human rights lobby groups, for increased use of body worn cameras by police officers, especially those who go on operations.
The commissioner pointed out that while the JCF has issued cameras to some officers, use of the equipment has challenges, as it lacked a proper back end system.
As such, the cameras were put on hold, until the back end system was operational.
He said the body worn cameras, coupled with the CCTV Jamaica Eye System, are among the continued technological upgrades within the force.
