Jamal Lowe replaces injured Leon Bailey in Reggae Boyz Concacaf Nations League squad

Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey has been replaced by Jamal Lowe in Jamaica’s squad for the upcoming Concacaf Nations League fixtures against Cuba and Honduras.

Bailey has not featured for the national team since last November, but accepted a return after holding talks with new Reggae Boyz manager Steve McClaren.

However his hopes of playing were dashed after injured his hamstring and had to be substituted in the 15th minute against Leicester City on Saturday, ruling him out of this Friday’s game against Cuba at the National Stadium and next Tuesday’s encounter away to Honduras in Tegucigalpa.

Lowe who recently joined English Championship outfit Sheffield Wednesday has been called up as replacement for Bailey and is set to arrive this afternoon in Montego Bay with the rest of the English-based players.

Captain Andre Blake and Damion Lowe are already in the island along with the local based duo of Richard King and Adrian Reid jr.

IRIE FM has also learned that former England international Trevor Sinclair has joined the coaching staff and will work alongside former Manchester United goalkeeping coach Richard Hartist under new Reggae Boyz head coach Steve McClaren.

Sinclair was capped twelve times by England and played in the Premier League for Queens Park Rangers, West Ham United and Manchester City.

He also played in the Football League for Blackpool and Cardiff City where he retired in 2008. Following his retirement, Sinclair largely worked as a pundit on both television and radio, most notably for BBC Sport on Football Focus and Final Score.

Merron Gordon, in the meantime, remains an assistant coach and has been joined by another local coach Rudolph Austin the former Reggae Boys captain and midfielder.

The team is scheduled to have its first training session under McClaren at the National Stadium on Tuesday.
