Jamaica’s unemployment rate falls to 4.2%

Jamaica’s unemployment rate has fallen to 4.2 per cent.

This is down from the 5.4 percent recorded in January this year.

This was revealed in the latest revised labour force survey from the Statistical Institute of Jamaica for April 2024.

For the review period there were 62,800 unemployed persons, with females accounting for the majority.

Youth unemployment stood at 14.8 per cent.

The data show there were 672,700 individuals outside the labour force.

Among the those persons 3.5 per cent were classified as part of the potential labour force.

This group includes individuals seeking employment but not available to work, or those available for work but not currently searching for a job.
