Jamaica’s senior men’s rugby players are now in Cape Town, South Africa ahead of the start of the Rugby World Cup Sevens which is set to kick off on Friday. 

The three-day event which ends on September 11 will operate in a straight knockout format and is being contested by a total 31 nations.

The Jamaicans will open their account on the opening day against Scotland in the pre-round of 16. 

The winning teams in the men’s pre-round of 16 secured passage to the round of 16, where they will be joined by the eight seeded nations……England, France, United States, New Zealand, Argentina, Australia, Fiji and tournament host South Africa.

The Jamaican team to be captained by Tyler Bush includes two local based players in Ronaldeni Fraser and Fabion Turner. 

It’s completed by Jack Rampton, Cameron Melville, Oscar Clayton, Rhodri Adamson, Gareth Stoppani, Ashley Smith, Anthony Bingham, Ryan Denvir and Omar Dixon. 

The team will stage its second training session tomorrow, 

Technical Director Bruce Martin speaking to Irie Fm sports says  preparations have been going well. 

The tournament runs from September 9-11 at Cape Town stadium and Jamaica joins Canada, the USA, Argentina, Chile and Uruguay as the six  competing countries from the Americas.
