Jamaica’s Reggae Girls will now turn their attention to the second international friendly against Mexico next Tuesday in Mexico.
This follows their winning start to the two-game tour of the Central American country, after edging the Mexicans 4–3 in a competitive international friendly at the Estadio Victoria on Friday night.
Both teams will meet again on October 13 at the Estadio La Corregidora in Querétaro, providing another opportunity for Jamaican head coach Hubert Busby to assess his squad ahead of November’s competitive fixtures.
Meanwhile, in last night’s action, Jody Brown opened the scoring for the Reggae Girls in the 14th minute before Manchester City striker Khadija “Bunny” Shaw doubled Jamaica’s advantage six minutes later, in the 20th minute.
Denisha Blackwood scored again for the Hubert Busby-coached Jamaicans in the 36th minute. However, the hosts scored twice, leaving the Reggae Girls narrowly ahead at 3–2 at the break.
On the resumption, Mexico enjoyed good possession, but in the 89th minute, Jamaica produced an extended passing move before scoring their fourth goal to establish a 4–2 lead.
Mexico pulled back another goal four minutes into stoppage time, but the Jamaicans held on for the victory.
This was Jamaica’s second win over Mexico in five women’s international matches between the two teams.
