Jamaica’s music fraternity mourns death of legendary singer Max Romeo

Jamaica’s music fraternity is mourning the death of legendary singer and songwriter Max Romeo.

The singer whose real name is Maxwell Livingston Smith died last evening after being admitted to hospital on Thursday.

He was 80.

Max Romeo is known for songs such as War Inna Babylon, Let the Power Fall and Revelation Time.

Minister of Culture and Entertainment Olivia Grange said his music not only provided entertainment but much of it addressed social issues such as poverty, inequality, and justice.

She noted that Max made the billboard charts and was also inducted into the Jamaica Music Museum Hall of Fame in February.

Meanwhile, Opposition Spokesperson on Culture Dr. Deborah Hickling Gordon said Max Romeo’s musical artistry will be remembered globally. 

Both Ms. Grange and Dr. Gordon have expressed condolences to Max Romeo’s family, friends and fans.
