Opposition Spokesman on Health Dr. Morais Guy has again stated that Jamaica is at risk of an outbreak of measles, mumps and rubella, due to challenges in the administration of vaccines to children.

In his sectoral presentation yesterday, Dr. Guy said despite his warnings from last year nothing has been done to address the issue.

He pointed to international reports of a staggering increase in cases of measles last year, with some countries now experiencing outbreaks.

Dr. Guy noted that Jamaica’s MMR vaccination rate, has decreased by 10%.

Dr. Guy also expressed concern about the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) vaccination programme, noting that many young girls are at risk of cervical cancer.
