Jamaica’s medal tally climbs to 12 at the 2026 Commonwealth Games

Jamaica’s medal tally climbed to 12 earlier today after the country’s athletes captured one gold and three bronze medals on the track at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

Jamaica now sits 1th on the medal table with a total of five gold, two silver and five bronze medals.

Sanique Walker struck gold in the women’s 400 metres hurdles, clocking a personal best 54.00 seconds to claim the title. Fellow Jamaican Shian Salmon finished fifth in 55.54 seconds.

In the men’s 400 metres hurdles, Assinie Wilson secured the bronze medal in 49.22 seconds.

Christopher Taylor also claimed bronze in the men’s 200 metres final, producing a lifetime best of 20.11 seconds. Jevaughn Powell finished fifth in 20.36 seconds.

Alana Reid added another bronze in the women’s 200 metres final, crossing the line in 22.56 seconds. Ashanti Moore and Lavanya Williams were fourth and fifth, respectively, in 22.57 and 22.62 seconds.

Kelly-Ann Beckford finished seventh in the women’s 800 metres final in 2 minutes, 2.77 seconds.

Jamaica’s mixed 4×400 metres relay team advanced to the final after placing third in their heat in 3 minutes, 17.36 seconds, behind Nigeria and Australia.

Meanwhile, in the morning session, Ackelia Smith booked her place in the women’s long jump final after producing a leap of 6.58 metres in the qualifying round. Nia Robinson failed to register a legal mark and did not advance.

The Jamaican mixed relay quartet of Delano Kennedy, Shana-Kaye Anderson, Christopher Taylor and Leah Anderson secured their place in the final with a third-place finish in their heat, clocking 3 minutes, 17.36 seconds.

Meanwhile, in netball, the Sunshine Girls defeated Wales in their final Pool B contest to book a semi-final showdown with defending champions Australia on Saturday.

Pool B winners New Zealand will meet England in the other semi-final.
