Jamaica’s Consulate Office in Haiti attacked by gang members
Jamaica has suspended its Consular Services in Haiti, following an attack on the building which housed the Jamaican Consulate in that country.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Kamina Johnson Smith confirmed that the attack was carried out by gang members this morning (June 13) in Haiti’s capital Port -au-Prince.
She said the building was set ablaze.
Haiti has been experiencing months of civil unrest with gang conflict being blamed.
Several Haitian officials are in Jamaica, holding talks with CARICOM leaders on security measures to address the situation in that country.
