Jamaicans urged to avoid exposure to Saharan Dust

The Health Ministry is urging members of the public to guard against the effects of the Saharan Dust that is affecting the island.

The arrival of the Saharan dust layer is not unusual for the Caribbean.

The weather phenomenon occurs annually, usually between May and October.

The plumes are usually short-lived, lasting no more than a week.

During its presence over the island, Director of Environmental Health in the Ministry Michael Williams is urging persons to avoid excess exposure to the dust particles, as they can have severe health effects.
