Jamaicans McLeod and Tracey compete at Botswana Golden Grand Prix

Jamaican athletes Candice McLeod and Tyquendo Tracey were both in action earlier today at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix, held in Gaborone.

McLeod lined up in Heat 2 of the women’s 400 metres, where she finished 7th with a time of 53.78 seconds. The event was won by Egypt’s Bassant Hemida, who posted 50.77 seconds to take first place.

Meanwhile, Tracey competed in both the men’s 100 and 200 metres. He placed 6th in each event, clocking 10.30 seconds in the 100m and 21.07 seconds in the 200m.

The men’s 100m saw a blistering world-leading performance from South Africa’s Akani Simbine, who crossed the line in 9.90 seconds. Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala was close behind in second with 10.00 seconds.

In the 200 meters, Olympic champion and hometown favourite Letsile Tebogo delighted the local crowd, cruising to victory in 20.23 seconds.
