Jamaicans King and Powell in West Indies Squad for New Zealand T20I Series
Jamaicans Brandon King and Rovman Powell have been named in the West Indies squad announced by Cricket West Indies for the five-match T20 International series against New Zealand, which bowls off tomorrow (Tuesday) evening Jamaica time.
Allrounder Matthew Forde returns to the side after successfully completing rehabilitation and return-to-play protocols following a shoulder injury suffered during the summer. The selectors have also included Shamar Springer to strengthen the team’s seam-bowling options, while left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie has been left out after a dip in form.
The 15-member squad will be led by Shai Hope and includes Alick Athanaze, Akeem Auguste, Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Amir Jangoo, Brandon King, Khary Pierre, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Jayden Seales, Romario Shepherd and Shamar Springer.
The first two matches will be played at Eden Park in Auckland, followed by games three and four at Saxton Oval in Nelson, before the series concludes at the University Oval in Dunedin. The West Indies’ tour of New Zealand will also feature three One Day Internationals and three Test matches.
Meanwhile, New Zealand will be without several key players for the T20 series, after revealing a 14-man squad featuring a number of changes due to injuries. Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Adam Milne, Glenn Phillips and Ben Sears have all been ruled out, while former captain Kane Williamson will also be absent following his retirement from T20 internationals announced on Sunday.
All-rounder Mitchell Santner will again lead the Black Caps as they begin preparations for the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
Uncapped pacer Nathan Smith has been called up and could make his T20 International debut, while fast bowler Matt Henry has been rested ahead of the ODI and Test legs of the series.
New Zealand’s full squad reads: Mitchell Santner (captain), Michael Bracewell, Mark Chapman, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Kyle Jamieson, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Rachin Ravindra, Tim Robinson, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith and Ish Sodhi.
