Jamaicans in Florida USA in wait & see mode as T S Debby approaches

Jamaicans in Florida, United States of America are reportedly in wait and see mode as Tropical Storm Debby draws nearer.

Tropical Storm Debby became the 4th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season today, and is threatening Florida’s gulf coast.

The National Hurricane Centre said Debby is forecast to become a hurricane as it approaches Florida’s big bend region.

Hurricane and storm surge warnings have been issued, as considerable flash flooding is likely, for portions of the south eastern US.

The Weather Channel reported that Debby is expected to make landfall in Florida, by next Monday.

Consul General Oliver Mair told Irie FM News that Jamaicans in areas that are likely to be affected by Debby are monitoring the situation.

He noted that events to mark the observance of Jamaica’s emancipation and independence in Florida are still slated to be held, weather permitting.
