Jamaican trio included in West Indies Women’s Squad for ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers

Three Jamaicans—former captain Stafanie Taylor, current skipper Rashada Williams, and highly-rated all-rounder Chinelle Henry—have been named in the 15-player West Indies Women’s squad for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, scheduled to take place from April 9 to 19 in Lahore, Pakistan.

The round-robin tournament will see all 15 matches played across two iconic venues: the Gaddafi Stadium and Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) Stadium. The West Indies Women will compete for one of the final two qualification spots for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, to be hosted in India later this year.

Taylor and Henry return to the squad after recovering from injuries while Williams joins after impressing with her performances in the CG United Women’s Super50 Cup.

Their inclusion marks the only changes to the squad that played in the ODI home series against Bangladesh in St. Kitts earlier this year. They replace Nerissa Crafton, Djenaba Joseph, and Deandra Dottin, who miss out due to injury.

The West Indies Women’s squad meanwhile is led by captain Hayley Matthews and vice-captain Shemaine Campbelle. Alongside Taylor, Williams, and Henry, the squad also features Aaliyah Alleyne, Afy Fletcher, Cherry Ann Fraser, Shabika Gajnabi, Jannillea Glasgow, Zaida James, Qiana Joseph, Mandy Mangru, Ashmini Munisar, and Karishma Ramharack.

The team will be coached by Shane Deitz, with the support of team manager Sheena Gooding and assistant coaches Ryan Austin and Damien Wright.

The West Indies Women will begin their campaign on April 9 against Scotland at the LCCA Stadium. They will follow up with matches against Ireland, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Thailand as they look to secure their spot in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.

The team is set to depart on Monday for a pre-tournament camp in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) before traveling to Pakistan for the qualifiers.
