Jamaican flag to replace iconic Air Jamaica plane tail at NMIA round-a-bout
A Jamaican flag will replace the iconic Air Jamaica plane tail at the round-a-bout leading to the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston.
The plane tail was removed last year as part of the round-a-bout rehabilitation project. It is to be placed as an exhibit in a museum.
The move sparked widespread discourse about the removal of the country’s material culture.
However, speaking at a media briefing and airport tour today, Sitara English-Byfield, Chief Executive Officer at PAC Kingston Airport Limited, said she hopes Jamaicans will be receptive to the Jamaican flag at the round-a-bout.
She also noted that a design competition will be launched soon for the painting of the words “NMIA” and “Kingston” which have already been erected under the rehabilitation project.
