Jamaican-born Sound System pioneer Fatman dies

Jamaican-born British sound system operator, label owner, and producer Kenneth “Fatman” Gordon has died.

The family announced his passing via Facebook on Sunday, December 15, sharing, “On behalf of all the family, we’d like to thank everyone for sending your condolences, love, and support during this difficult time.” They also revealed plans to host a nine-night celebration of his life, with details to be shared soon.

Fatman, who moved from Waterhouse to the UK in 1962, ran the KG Imperial and Fat Man labels, as well as the publishing company Ken Songs. He operated Fatman HiFi, a renowned sound system based in Tottenham, North London.

He collaborated extensively with reggae legends King Tubby, Prince Jammy, and Bunny Lee to release their music in the UK.
