Jamaica Urban Transit Company seeking to expand its services, not compete with PPV Operators
The Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) is seeking to expand its services, not compete with Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV) Operators.
That’s the comment from JUTC’s Managing Director, Owen Ellington, as he sought to address claims that the State-run bus company was competing unfairly with PPV operators, following the launch of several routes in rural areas.
Speaking at a press conference today, Mr. Ellington argued that with over 35,000 registered operators and only about 300 JUTC buses, the company cannot compete.
Mr. Ellington also noted that the JUTC intends to bring additional businesses to communities through its services.
He is urging PPV operators to embrace the model being rolled out by the JUTC, and to seek ways in which they can partner with the Government-owned bus company.
