Jamaica to send security personnel to Haiti this Thursday

Jamaica will begin its deployment of security personnel to Haiti on Thursday, September 12.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness, who made the announcement this morning, said an initial command team of 24 security personnel will leave the island this week.

This initial deployment will comprise officers from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF).

The remaining security force members will follow at a later date.

Mr. Holness reminded that the deployment aligns with his administration’s commitment to participate in the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti, as part of a broader international effort to restore peace and stability in that country.

He said those being deployed were highly trained and are equipped to address the multifaceted security challenges facing Haiti.

Meanwhile, Mr. Holness said it is in Jamaica’s best interest to support the stability of Haiti, especially as gangs remain a threat to Jamaica.
