Jamaica to petition King Charles in relation to mission for reparatory justice
The Government is launching a campaign to petition King Charles III in relation to its mission for reparatory justice on September 6.
Minster of Culture Olivia Grange made the disclosure during her Sectoral Debate Presentation in Parliament yesterday.
Ms. Grange said September 6 is an historic day, as it was this date in 1781, the Zong Slave ship departed West Africa for Jamaica with 442 enslaved Africans.
She said the petition to the king will request that he refers to the privy council—the final appellate court of Jamaica—three questions related to the criminal nature of the transatlantic trafficking and racialised chattel enslavement of Africans in Jamaica.
She invited every Jamaican to join the conversation and the movement for reparatory justice on behalf of the ancestors.
