Jamaica Teachers’ Association says Sunday’s brutal killing of 7-y-o in Clarendon indicates continued breach of children’s right to life

The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) says the brutal killing of seven-year-old Aiden Bartley in Clarendon on Sunday is another indication that children’s right to life continues to be breached in Jamaica.

Aiden is the youngest of eight people who were shot and killed at a birthday celebration along Cherry Tree Lane, in Four Paths.

Nine others including a one-year-old were wounded in the incident.

Condemning the incident, JTA President Leighton Johnson expressed concern that children continue to experience first-hand the atrocities meted out by criminals.

He said citizens, especially children, should be able to live in an environment that is void of danger and fear.

He again appealed to Jamaicans to work together to eradicate crime and violence in the country.
