Jamaica tax payers paid Grand Slam Track $58 million dollars

Jamaican taxpayers paid over almost $58 million dollars to the embattled Grand Slam Track (GST), for the role it played in the resurfacing the running track at the National Stadium last year.

The resurfacing work was led by track suppliers, Rekortan, in collaboration with Independence Park Limited.

According Permanent Secretary with responsibility for entertainment, culture and special projects in the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sports Deanroy Bernard, GST was among the project managers for the resurfacing activities by virtue of their role in negotiating the terms of engagement with Rekotan.

Bernard was answering questions at the Public and Appropriation Committee meeting at Gordon House on Wednesday.

Bernard explained that they ended their relationship with GST upon paying over the monies.
