Jamaica suffer embarrassing 9-0 nil defeat in Concacaf U-20 Championship opener to USA
Jamaica’s young Reggae Boyz opened their campaign in the Concacaf Men’s U-20 Championship in Mexico in disastrous fashion, suffering an embarrassing 9-0 thrashing at the hands of defending champions United States who rose to the top of Group A.
David Vazquez opened the scoring in the 2′ with a right shot inside the box and extended the lead for the U.S. in the 3′ with a left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty arc.
Pedro Soma made it 3-nil with a left-footed strike of his own in the 16′ and completed his brace in the 20′ with another left-footed hit inside the box.
Cruz Medina penned his name in the scoresheet in the 39′ to give the USA a five-goal lead after which Marcos Zambrano struck in the 54′ as the Americans continued their offensive efficiency into the second half.
Ruben Ramos scored in the 67′ to make it seven for the three-time champions.
Nimfasha Berchimas opened his account in the 77′ from short distance while Nikolas Tsakiris added one more goal for the U.S. in the 90’+1 to close the victory.
Group A action resumes on Monday with Jamaica and Costa Rica as the first half of the doubleheader. Cuba will face the United States in the second match at the Miguel Aleman Valdez Stadium in Celaya.
