Jamaica strengthening its capacity to identify, assess and respond to proliferation financing risks
Jamaica is strengthening its capacity to identify, assess and respond to proliferation financing risks.
Proliferation financing is the provision of funds or financial services that support the development, transfer or sale of nuclear, chemical or biological weapons and their delivery systems.
Jamaica has limited practical experience in investigating such activities and efforts are being made by the Financial Investigations Division (FID) and the Constabulary’s Financial Unit (CFU) to improve this.
Among the capacity-building measures is the hosting of a two-day Countering Proliferation Financing (CF) Risk Assessment Workshop last month.
FID Chief Technical Director, Dennis Chung stresses the importance of preparedness in the event proliferation financing activities are identified locally.
He said the FID and the CFU are the gatekeepers, safeguarding against such incidents.
