Jamaica Scorpions suffer 5-wicket defeat to Leeward Islands Hurricanes in Regional Four-Day Championship

The Jamaica Scorpions were handed a 5-wicket loss by the Leeward Islands Hurricanes before lunch on Saturday’s 4th and final day of their second-round Regional Four-Day Championship match at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua.

The Hurricanes, resuming the day at 44 for 1 and needing 112 runs to claim victory, secured the required runs to seal the win at 156 for 5. The victory came largely thanks to a composed, unbeaten 62 from Jewel Andrew, who led the charge to victory for the Hurricanes. He was well supported by Keacy Carty, who finished on 34, and Kadeem Henry, who contributed 25.

The Scorpions, despite fighting hard with the ball, were unable to stop the Hurricanes from reaching their target. Marquino Mindley was the pick of the bowlers for Jamaica, finishing with 2 for 32. Gordon Bryan and Jeavor Royal claimed one wicket apiece, with Bryan finishing with 1 for 29, Royal 1 for 40, and Tamarie Redwood 1 for 31.

As a result of the loss, the Scorpions slipped to 4th place in the standings with 29.4 points, while the Hurricanes surged to the top of the table with 45.4 points.

Meanwhile, in other matches across the region, the Barbados Pride recorded a dominant innings and 54-run victory over the West Indies Academy in the day-night game at Kensington Oval in Barbados. The defending champions, Guyana Harpy Eagles, beat the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) team by 8 wickets, while Trinidad and Tobago Red Force wrapped up a massive innings and 176-run win over the Windward Islands Volcanoes at Arnos Vale.

Barbados Pride vs. West Indies Academy: The West Indies Academy, following on, began the day at 211 for 6 but failed to add to their overnight total, losing the remaining two wickets. Jomel Worrican starred with the ball for Barbados, claiming 6 for 104, while Ramon Simmonds took 4 for 43.

  • West Indies Academy: 239 and 288

Guyana Harpy Eagles vs. CCC: At the Guyana National Stadium, the defending champions secured a solid victory, chasing down 168 for 2. They had earlier bowled out CCC for just 132, after CCC resumed the day at 32 for 3. Veerasammy Permaul was outstanding with the ball, taking 4 for 41, supported by Shamar Joseph (2 for 48) and Ronaldo Alimohamed (2 for 21).

  • Guyana Harpy Eagles: 343 and 168 for 2
  • CCC: 375 and 132

Following these results, the standings have seen some movement. The Guyana Harpy Eagles moved into second place with 45.2 points, while the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force sit third with 44.4 points. The Barbados Pride now find themselves in fifth with 28.6 points.
