Jamaica Scorpions hold strong lead at close of day 2 in Regional Four-Day Championship

The Jamaica Scorpions are in a commanding position at the close of play on Day 2 of their Regional Four-Day Championship first-round encounter against the Windward Islands Volcanoes at Arnos Vale in St. Vincent. The Scorpions finished the day on 72 for 1 in their second innings, holding a substantial lead of 214 runs with 9 wickets still in hand.

Earlier in the day, the Volcanoes were dismissed for 195 in their first innings, trailing the Scorpions by 142 runs. Ryan John (41) and Shadrack Descarte (34) were the standout batters for the Volcanoes, but they were unable to fend off the threat posed by Jermaine Blackwood (3 for 27) and Odean Smith (3 for 55).

Blackwood’s three-wicket haul came after his contribution with the bat, where he added 8 runs to his overnight score, ending up with 109 as the Scorpions resuming on 291 for 7, eventually posted 337 all out.

In their second innings, the Scorpions openers Kirk McKenzie (36*) and Carlos Brown (30) provided a solid foundation with a first-wicket stand of 72. However, Brown was dismissed on the final delivery of the day, leaving McKenzie to continue his unbeaten knock as the Scorpions head into Day 3 with a strong grip on the match.

Guyana Harpy Eagles and Barbados Pride in Tight Contest at Guyana National Stadium

At the Guyana National Stadium, the defending champions, Guyana Harpy Eagles, reached 315 for 3 in response to Barbados Pride’s first-innings total of 346 all out. The Pride were led by an 82 from Mathew Forde. Guyana’s response has been spearheaded by Kemol Savory, who remains unbeaten on 95 and Kevlon Anderson, who is not out on 85. The pair has shared a massive 179-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Leeward Islands Hurricanes Build on Strong First Innings at Coolidge Cricket Ground

At the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes have gained control in their match against the West Indies Academy. Having posted a first-innings total of 358, the Hurricanes reached 134 for 4 in their second innings at stumps. The West Indies Academy had been dismissed for just 145 in their first innings, and the Hurricanes will look to extend their lead further when play resumes on Day 3.

Trinidad and Tobago Red Force Declare with Mammoth Total at Brian Lara Academy

At the Brian Lara Academy, the Trinidad and Tobago Red Force put on a dominant display, declaring their first innings at a mammoth 504 for 7. Jason Mohammed led the charge with an outstanding 176, sharing a massive 227-run partnership with Jyd Goolie, who struck 19 boundaries on his way to 121. Openers Vikash Mohan (66) and Cephas Cooper (80) also contributed significantly, putting on 139 for the first wicket.

In response, the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) reached 30 for 0, with captain Johann Jeremiah on 30 and Damel Evelyn on 10.
