Jamaica records 29 dengue-related deaths since 2023

The Health Ministry has reported that since 2023, Jamaica has recorded 29 dengue related deaths.

The update was given by Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor McKenzie during a press briefing today.

In the wake of the passage of Hurricane Beryl and continued rain fall in recent days, there has been an increase in the presence of mosquitoes, which puts citizens at increased risk for vector borne illnesses, including dengue.

Dr. Bisasor McKenzie noted that as at July 16, the Ministry recorded over 11,000 dengue cases.

She expressed concern that there is usually a spike in dengue cases during July and August.
