Jamaica ranks 115th of 193 countries on UNDP Human Development Index

Jamaica has been ranked 115th out of 193 countries in the 2023 edition of the Human Development Index (HDI) released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The HDI released on March 13, is a summary measure for assessing average achievement in three basic dimensions of human development – that is a long and healthy life, access to knowledge and a decent standard of living.

Jamaica’s HDI value for 2022 is 0.706, which put the country in the high human development category.

Between 1990 and 2022, Jamaica’s HDI value has changed from 0.664 to 0.706. That’s a change of 6.3%.

The positive change is largely due to Jamaica’s life expectancy at birth changed by 1.7 years, expected years of schooling going up by 1.3 years and mean years of schooling increasing by 2.6 years.

Jamaica’s Gross National Income per capita changed by about 6.9% over the 3 decades.
