Jamaica must understand dynamics of learning to disrupt generational fear of Mathematics – JTA President Dr. Smith

Newly-minted President of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, Dr. Mark Smith says citizens have to truly understand the dynamics of learning if the country is to disrupt, what he calls, the generational fear of Mathematics.

Last Tuesday, the Caribbean Examination Council reported that there was a decline in the number of students who secured passes in Mathematics in this year’s May-June sitting of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate examinations.

Citing this, Dr. Smith stressed the importance of people procuring a different mindset when approaching the subject to prevent fear and ensure better results.

Dr. Smith was speaking at an event in Manchester on Friday.
