Jamaica’s men’s team is through to the main draw of the 2025 FIBA 3×3 AmeriCup Basketball Tournament, now underway in León, Mexico, after cruising through Group A of the qualifiers with an undefeated record against regional rivals Saint Lucia and Guyana.
Led by head coach Rohan Robinson, the Jamaicans opened their campaign in emphatic fashion, delivering a dominant 21–7 victory over Saint Lucia. The charge was led by Durand Scott and Jabulani Newby, who combined for 16 of Jamaica’s points, each finishing with a joint game-high of eight.
They followed that performance with a confident 19–14 win over Guyana, with Newby again impressing as the leading scorer with six points. Scott and Malik Lawrence-Anderson both chipped in with five points apiece to secure the top spot in Group A with 40 points.
That result now sends the 10th-seeded Jamaicans into Pool B of the main draw, where they will take on No. 2 seed Puerto Rico at 4:00 p.m. Jamaica time tomorrow before facing the Dominican Republic at 5:40 p.m.
Defending champions and top seed, the United States, headline Pool A alongside Mexico and the Cayman Islands.
Meanwhile, in the women’s tournament, Jamaica has been drawn into Pool A and will open their campaign today against South American powerhouse Brazil at 5:40 p.m., before facing regional juggernauts the United States at 7:30 p.m. Jamaica time.
The Jamaican women’s roster features Tiffany Reynolds, Crystal Prim, Jessica Fairweather, and Faatimah Amen-Ra. Canada, the defending champions, headline Pool A, which also includes Cayman Islands and the Dominican Republic.
