Jamaica invited to four-nation tournament in England
Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz have been invited to participate in a four-nation tournament dubbed the Unity Cup.
The event, to be hosted by England in May, will also feature African powerhouse teams Ghana and Nigeria along with Trinidad and Tobago
The tournament will provide a platform for the teams to fine-tune their preparations ahead of other major international competitions and also serves as a precursor to the 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup which takes place from June 14 to July 6.
The Steve McClaren-led team cemented its place at the regional showpiece event for a 14th time after running out 3-0 winners against St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the return leg of the two-way preliminary round tie at Sabina Park on Tuesday for a 4-1 aggregate victory.
Advancing alongside Jamaica via the qualifiers are Costa Rica, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Honduras, Trinidad and Tobago and Suriname. They join already qualified tournament host United States, Canada, Mexico, Panama, El Salvador, Haiti, Curacao, Dominican Republic and invited team Saudi Arabia
The draw takes place on April 10. The tournament gets underway with the opening match at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California while the final will be played at NRG Stadium in Houston.
