Jamaica and Philippines broker partnership to boost human resources for health sector
Jamaica and the Philippines have brokered a partnership aimed at boosting human resources in the health sector.
This is as Jamaica’s healthcare workers continue to migrate due to several factors, including better salaries and working conditions.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed yesterday by Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton and the Philippines’ Secretary of Health, Dr. Teodoro Herbosa.
It is to explore, among other things, the expansion of training healthcare workers in Jamaica.
Dr. Tufton explained that the two countries are also to explore an arrangement for the recruitment of nurses, in response to the shortage of specialist nurses in Jamaica.
