Jamaica Agricultural Society highlights increase in number of young farmers active in the sector, as one of the successes of 2022
The Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) has highlighted an increase in the number of young farmers active in the sector, as one of the successes of 2022.
Speaking with IRIE FM news, JAS President Lenworth Fulton acknowledged that there were several challenges for the sector last year, but there were also several accomplishments.
He said 2022 featured a number of events or activities with the noticeable participation of young farmers.
He noted that the current average age of a farmer is 50 years, compared to the previous average age of 70 years.
Mr. Fulton noted that livestock farming saw significant growth in 2022.
