Jaheim Cummings and Shanoy Eccleston dominate inaugural Wake-Fit 5K Run/Walk in Trelawny
Jaheim Cummings and Shanoy Eccleston emerged as the male and female champions of the inaugural Wake-Fit 5K Run/Walk, held on Friday in the community of Wakefield, Trelawny. The event, which saw enthusiastic participation across various age groups, was staged by the Wake Fit Group to support the Wakefield Primary and Wakefield Basic Schools.
Cummings delivered a stellar performance in the 5K Run (Male) category, crossing the finish line ahead of Alwayne Williams and Rayon Vaughns, who took second and third place respectively. On the women’s side, Eccleston claimed victory in the 5K Run (Female), finishing ahead of Mishana Steele and Cindy Williams.
In the 5K Walk, Ralph Campbell outpaced his competitors to win the men’s section, with Delano Taylor securing second place and Vinroy Bowen finishing third. The women’s category was dominated by Emily Thorpe, who clinched the top spot ahead of Antionette Spencer and Natesha Heslop.

The event also celebrated young talents in the Under-15 division. Creston Gentles took first place in the 5K Run (Male Under-15), while Jamiel Chattoo triumphed in the 5K Run (Female Under-15). In a heartwarming display, 9-year-olds Anthony Foster and O’Kecia Johnson showcased exceptional endurance, winning the Under-15 Male and Female 5K Walk titles.
Special awards were also presented during the post-race ceremony. Constable Jerome Stephens was recognized with a complimentary medal for being the first member of the security forces to cross the finish line, while Rosemarie Nicholson, at 57 years old, was honoured as the oldest participant.
