JA Ambassador to the US says Jamaicans who overstayed in the US seeking assistance home

Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States Audrey Marks says a number of Jamaicans who have overstayed their time in the US are seeking assistance to get home.

There has been heightened concern about Jamaicans who are in the US illegally, in light of the US government’s increased efforts to clamp down on illegal immigrants, based on new orders from president Donald Trump.

Ambassador Marks says the statistics are not in keeping with the panic that exists about this issue.

She adds that many persons who are returning to Jamaica are for immigration offences, and raised concerns about how they are treated upon return.

She noted that 56 persons returned yesterday, the majority for immigration offences.
