It’s official: Richard King signs for St Mirren FC

St Mirren FC have announced the signing of Jamaican international defender Richard King on a two-year deal, subject to medical and visa approval.

The 23-year-old joins the Scottish Premiership side after helping Cavalier SC lift the Jamaica Premier League title just last month. King’s contract runs until the summer of 2027, with the club holding an option to extend for a further year, according to an official statement on the club’s website.

A seasoned international with 30 caps for the Reggae Boyz, King attracted interest from multiple clubs across Europe and the UK. However, he chose to make Paisley his new home, becoming St Mirren’s third signing of the 2025/26 season. He follows the arrivals of Killian Phillips from Crystal Palace and Roland Idowu from Shrewsbury Town.

Speaking on the new signing, Saints manager Stephen Robinson revealed that King had long been on his radar.

“We tried to bring Richard in during the January window, so we’re delighted to finally get it over the line. He’s a strong, composed defender with international pedigree and a winning mentality. He’ll be a fantastic addition to the squad.”

With a championship medal fresh around his neck and a wealth of experience at just 23, King will be looking to make an immediate impact in Scottish football.
