Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton is in the Philippines pursuing a partnership to boost Jamaica’s human resources for health.

Dr. Tufton’s travel to the southeastern Asian country follows the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between him and the Secretary of Health for the Philippines, Dr. Teodoro Herbosa in January.

The agreement was signed during Dr. Herbosa’s visit to Jamaica.

The MOU provides for faculty or trainer exchanges, as well as training and certification of health professionals.

It also allows for capacity-building and knowledge-sharing in biotechnology, medical equipment, epidemiology and healthcare management.

It will also facilitate exchange visits for specialist nurses and other professionals.

Dr. Tufton said since arriving in the Philippines there have been bilateral discussions to figure out details of the various aspects of collaboration.
