“It will serve the wealthy not the poor” Golding rejects JLP’s promise to slash income tax rate to 15%; proposes to raise tax threshold to 3.5M
President of the People’s National Party (PNP) Mark Golding has rejected the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP’s) promise to slash the income tax rate from 25 to 15% if given the chance to remain in power.
Mr. Golding described the JLP’s campaign promise as a move that will serve the wealthy and not the poor.
The JLP’s promise is one of several contained in its manifesto, which was launched at the party’s mass rally at Sam Sharpe Square, in Montego Bay, St. James yesterday.
The 110-page document is entitled “I Choose Jamaica, The Next Chapter.”
Speaking at a PNP Central Jamaica mass rally in Mandeville, Manchester, last night, Mr. Golding said a PNP administration will raise the income tax threshold to $3.5 million.
He said his income tax promise will benefit those who need it the most.
Mr. Golding also promised to raise the tax threshold further as time progresses.
