ISSA bans Dinthill players involved in referee incident and place school on probation
The Inter Secondary Schools Association (ISSA) has handed down its ruling on the three members of the Dinthill Technical DaCosta Cup team that were at the center of an incident on the weekend where a referee was physically assaulted at the end of a game.
It follows an ISSA Disciplinary Committee meeting on Thursday that came after the players involved in the fracas – Tyrese Gowe, Shamair Hutchinson and Maalick Whyte – were slapped with a combined eleven-day suspension by Dinthill earlier in the week.
The decision of the disciplinary committee is as follows:
1. Maalick Whyte and Shamair Hutchinson are both banned from participating in any ISSA competition for one (1) year effective September 26, 2024.
2. Tyrese Gowe is suspended for three (3) Dacosta Cup matches with effect from September 26, 2024.
3. Dinthill Technical is placed on a three (3) year probation and therefore may be suspended from participating in ISSA competitions if there are any further breaches of our disciplinary code of conduct within the period of probation.
The Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association in the release said it remains committed to ensuring that student-athletes “display the requisite decorum befitting their status as ambassadors of our schools and the various competitions in which they compete.”
“We strongly condemn any acts of indiscipline and more so acts of physical aggression and / or assault on any match official,” it said.
