Irwin High School student dies from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle crash yesterday

A Grade 7 student of the Irwin High School died from injuries she sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Montego Bay, St. James, yesterday.
She has been identified as Deanna Salmon.
Deanna was struck by a Montego Bay Metro bus just outside the school’s compound.
She was taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where she later passed away.
In a statement, Transport Minister Daryl Vaz expressed condolences to the grieving family and the Irwin High School community.
He urged the public to show compassion and respect by refraining from sharing videos or images of the accident.
Similarly, the Ministry of Education appealed to anyone in possession of such material to delete it immediately and encourage others to do the same.
The Ministry of Education said it would dispatch a team to Irwin High School today to provide grief counselling to students and staff.
Additionally, staff of the Montego Bay Metro will receive counseling from the Western Regional Health Authority.
