On Sunday, August 18, IRIE FM hosted another unforgettable tribute to the honourable Marcus Mosiah Garvey, a true champion of social justice and civil rights. The event was a masterful blend of education, music, and inspiration, centered around the theme “Social Justice and Civil Rights: We Have a Voice, Make Us a Part of the Decision-Making Process.”

The day began with a thought-provoking discussion on the live broadcast of the Africa Forum, hosted by Kabu Maat Kheru, and co-hosted by Mutabaruka, Nicholas Evans, and Dwight Fraser. This set the tone for a day of enlightenment and empowerment, backed by drumming and chanting from Ras Ivie and the Nyabinghi Drummers. Mutabaruka’s selection of black music from 11am-1pm further immersed the audience in the rich cultural heritage of Jamaica.

The educational segment, hosted by Roger Hasfal, featured a lineup of esteemed speakers, including Attorney at Law Bert Samuels, Marcus Garvey’s son Dr Julius Garvey, Activists Dr. Devon Taylor, Chief of the Accompong Maroons Richard Currie, Sujae Boswell, Mayor Michael Belnavis, Councillor Eugene Kelly, Minister David Muhammad and President of the UNIA Steven Golding. Their insightful remarks were complemented by powerful poetic performances from Majah Bless, Super Twins, Neto Meeks, Wise Wurdz, Cherry Natural, Ras Takura, and Charmain Ital as well as energetic performances from Kingston Drummers & the Accompong Maroons

The musical performances were nothing short of spectacular, featuring a diverse range of talented artists. The electrifying stage show hosted by Denise Isis Miller and Chuka, was a high-energy celebration of music and culture with the audience being treated to captivating performances from Keke I, Jahdon, I Wayne, Munga Honourable, Teflon, Hezron, Anthony Cruz, DYCR, Duane Stephenson, Yaksta, Loyal Flames, Bully Boi, and more.

IRIE FM has laid the path once again hosting a tribute that was a resounding success, serving as a poignant reminder of the importance of social justice, civil rights, and community empowerment. The event demonstrated the power of unity and culture in driving positive change.
