President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), Andrew Parsons has told Irie Fm Sports that its important to visit Jamaica at this time to see what is needed in terms of support for Paralympic Sport in the island and to address some of its challenges.

Parsons is currently in Jamaica on a five day visit where he will touch base with all the stakeholders involved in Paralympic Sport and to assist in charting a way forward.

While in Jamaica, the 47 year old Brazilian who is a journalist by profession, will make courtesy visits with the Opposition Leader Mark Golding and Sports Minister Olivia Grange among other key stakeholders.

Making it easier for Paralympic Sport in Jamaica to receive funding, will be paramount on Parsons list of priorities and to open more doors for the Jamaica Paralympic Association.

Meanwhile, President of the Jamaica Paralympic Association Christopher Samuda emphasised this will be an important opportunity for the local Paralympic community to engage directly with Parsons and gain insight into growth strategies and perspectives on the development of Para sport locally.
