Integrity Commission says it is nearing completion of processes being undertaken regarding PM Holness’ statutory declaration

The Integrity Commission says it is nearing the completion of processes being undertaken regarding Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ statutory declaration.

The issue has become a political football, with the Opposition People’s National Party and some civil society groups repeatedly calling for an explanation as to why Holness’ 2021 declaration has not been certified.

In its annual report tabled in Parliament yesterday, the Commission said by law, special provisions are made for the statutory declarations of the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition.

The Director of Information and Complaints is required to examine their declarations and where he is satisfied that it has been duly completed, he is to inform the Commission.

Upon being so informed, the Commission is to publish a summary of the declaration in a form that is set out in the legislation guiding the Commission.

The Commission said to satisfy himself of the due completion of a statutory declaration, the Director of Information and Complaints makes enquiries as he considers necessary.

The enquiries are aimed at determining accuracy.
